The Robert Lehman Art Center at Brooks School, North Andover October 2 – November 20 Exhibition Reception: October 2 | 6 – 8 pm Brooks School presents selected works from The Richard Holmes Warhol Collection, a singular archive assembled by Faculty Emeritus Richard Holmes H’73 (d). Curated by Director of the Robert Lehman Art Center Babs Wheelden P’22, the exhibition features more than 20 works on paper and sculpture, including hand-colored lithographs, blotted-line drawings, rare artist books, Polaroid portraits of celebrities, such as Mick Jagger, and Interview magazine mock-ups. Later masterpieces, including Jackie (1964) and Self Portrait (1986), reveal how Warhol’s early commercial work evolved into one of modern art’s most recognizable styles. Sponsored in part by the Robert Lehman Foundation during Brooks’ yearlong centennial celebration, several gallery talks and lectures will take place throughout the run of the exhibition. Charles Fine Arts, Gloucester October 3 – 11 Gala & Sale: October 9, North Shore Arts Association The 10th year of Cape Ann Plein Air will soon produce the legendary week when artists & easels materialize across the vistas of Cape Ann. This year, 36 juried artists have been selected from among the country’s best to create original paintings of Cape Ann scenery, which will be on display and available for purchase at the Friday Gala & Sale. Gloucester’s own Jeff Weaver will serve as judge, with $20,000 in prize money awarded. Many additional events are scheduled for this now traditional and rich week of plein air painting on Cape Ann. CORDAGE | DALE EMMART
Gladstone, Manchester-by-the-Sea September 23 – November 14 Artist Dale Emmart brings a new collection to Gladstone, with works on paper presenting studies of tangled ropes in suspended masses. Ropes are both ancient and contemporary tools. Working with nautical and agricultural varieties, the artist’s interpretations render ropes in many forms. They can be perceived as representing labor and safety, or perhaps tyranny and restraint. Dale Emmart attended The Cooper Union for a BFA in printmaking and drawing, and RISD for an MFA in painting. She works as a painter, printmaker, and paper and book artist in her studios in Northeastern Pennsylvania and New York City. For nearly forty years, she has been an art educator at RISD, The Parsons School of Design, Fordham University, Brooklyn College, and independent schools in New York City. Cordage Exhibition

Cove Gallery, Gloucester Through October 18 The final show at the Cove Gallery features four artists whose work explores the possibilities of abstraction: painters Willie Alexander and Martin Sorger, sculptor Joan Mullen, and printmaker Julia Talcott. Though their mediums and methods differ, the four artists share an essential artistic negotiation: how much of the world to include, and how much to strip away. Rather than treating abstraction as a fixed style or endpoint, More or Less considers it an ongoing process of decision-making. The exhibition offers no single answer to the question of how much is enough. Instead, the works create space for viewers to consider the choices behind them: What needs to be shown? What can be implied? When does form and structure say enough? And what happens when an artist chooses to give us more—or less? More or Less

The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, Gloucester Through November 1 The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) has opened YES!, their annual and final show of the year featuring works by the organization’s members. Jane Deering Gallery Through October 25, 2026 New England artist Katherine Downey Miller is known for work that moves between landscape and abstraction. Every work in the exhibition has a link to water. In some, water is the subject; in others, it is the medium itself, as in her paintings on Yupo paper, where fluid, water-based media pool, bloom, and react on the synthetic surface. Katherine Downey Miller holds a BS in Studio Art and Art History from Skidmore College and an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. WaterFire Arts Center, Providence, RI October 15 – November 8 Opening Reception: October 15 | 6–9 pm Go, Figure! brings together six artists working in two- and three-dimensional media, each exploring the human condition through the figure. Featured artists are Gabrielle Barzaghi, Lesle Fry, Claudia Olds Goldie, Zhexing Huang, Jazzmen Lee-Johnson, and Entang Wiharso. The exhibition presents distinctly individual approaches to figuration rather than literal representation. Peabody Essex Museum September 19, 2026 – January 3, 2027 A major retrospective, the exhibition offers a new perspective on the design work of Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988), one of the 20th century’s most critically acclaimed and genre-blurring artists. His design legacy encompasses sculpture, lighting, furniture, ceramics and designs for public spaces such as gardens, playgrounds and plazas. Organized by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Isamu Noguchi: "I am not a designer" illuminates the artist’s limitless creativity and social consciousness. Many of his designs remain popular, such as the celebrated coffee table and Akari light sculptures seen in stores today. As Noguchi once said, “Everything is sculpture. Heftler Gallery, Manninen Center for the Arts at Endicott College, Beverly Through November 20 Monday – Friday | 10 am – 4 pm The exhibition, Heroes & Sheroes, presents a series of prints created by Corita Kent at a pivotal moment in her career. Produced between 1968 and 1969, following her departure from Immaculate Heart College and the Immaculate Heart of Mary order, the works reflect a shift toward more direct engagement with the social and political issues of the time. Drawing from mass media imagery and bold graphic language, Corita’s work addresses civil rights, nuclear disarmament, and political unrest. The series honors influential figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, and Robert F. Kennedy, capturing the urgency and spirit of a transformative era. Corita Kent
BARBARA SWAN: CAPE ANN
Alpha Gallery, Boston Through October 31 Alpha Gallery is pleased to present Barbara Swan: Cape Ann, continuing through October 31. While Barbara Swan (1922-2003) trained at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, much of her artistic development happened on Cape Ann. Both parents were born and raised in Rockport, and the family owned a rustic “camp” on ancestral property, eventually adding Barbara’s studio, which became a laboratory for exploring still lifes, portraits, and the surrounding landscape. On Cape Ann, Swan was part of a close circle of artist friends, including Ralph Coburn and Bernard Chaet. Swan’s body of work eventually earned retrospective exhibitions and is represented in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard Art Museums, and the Cape Ann Museum, among many others. Marblehead Little Theater October 2 – 18 Translated by Diane Arnson Svarlien, this Greek tragedy follows Medea, a sorceress who is exiled after being betrayed by her husband, the Greek hero Jason. She plots her escape and revenge against those she believes have wronged her. The production is directed by Jon Kinney and produced by Erin Pelikhov and Lisa Fama. Marblehead Little Theatre (MLT) was started in 1955 by members of the drama committee of the Marblehead Woman’s Club. The group, led by visionary Terry Hale, connected with actors and directors in and around Marblehead, and it is now one of the oldest community theatre groups in New England, and one of the few to have continually produced shows each year. Founder and producer Volker Goetze performs on trumpet alongside Mande musician Ali BouloSanto Cissoko, who contributes vocals and kora. Guitarist Roberto Monteiro, based in Rio de Janeiro and Madrid, brings experience in flamenco performance and Spanish rhythmic traditions. Goetze’s background includes decades of work with West African Mande music, jazz composition and arranging, and study of flamenco melody and rhythm. BUILT ON COD: THE FISH THAT FED A REVOLUTION AND CROWNED AN ARISTOCRACY
Historic Beverly, Cabot Street, Beverly Opened December 13, 2025 In New England, cod was more than food; it represented faith, fortune, and folklore. Legend held that cod was the fish Jesus used to feed the multitudes, while haddock, marked by a dark line and the “devil’s thumbprint,” was said to be the devil’s failed imitation. From Beverly’s shores, salted cod connected the region to the wider world. The highest-grade fish went to markets such as Bilbao, Spain, where it was traded for salt, silk, and wine; lower-grade fish fed enslaved people in the southern colonies and the Caribbean; and the rest sustained local families through harsh winters. These global trade routes later aided the American Revolution by supplying ships and goods that supported the war effort. They also helped shape a social class known, sometimes mockingly, as the “codfish aristocracy.” Through the cod trade, Beverly’s history shows how global exchange, local enterprise, and legend intertwined to shape community and class in early America. MIT Museum, Cambridge August 14, 2026 – February 14, 2027 Created with a convergence of art, mathematics, marine science, and community participation, the Crochet Coral Reef installation transforms fiber art into a statement of climate concern. Though they occupy less than 1% of the ocean floor, coral reefs are home to over a quarter of marine life and are essential to the health of our planet’s oceans. Artists and advocates Christine Wertheim and Margaret Wertheim, along with thousands of global collaborators, have responded to this with Crochet Coral Reef, a compelling series of colorful handmade forms that mirror living corals. SENSING OCEANS
MIT Museum, Cambridge September 30, 2026 – February 21, 2027 Combining science, history, and contemporary art, Sensing Oceans explores how technology allows us to experience the marine environment that covers three quarters of our planet yet remains largely beyond our reach. From autonomous vehicles and sonar imaging to art installations and fish-inspired robots, the exhibition asks how sensing the ocean more fully might help us become better stewards of this crucial ecosystem. September 16, 2026, Peabody Essex Museum, opening reception for Isamu Noguchi: I am not a designer. Gathered in the PEM atrium, the museum members enjoyed a private opening for the major exhibition now installed in the galleries. Invitations to these special opening events are one of the many reasons to become a PEM member. The evening always includes refreshments, opening remarks by PEM leaders, followed by a tour of the new exhibition as guided by the curators. The majority of the guests turn up with their best museum attire, in honor of an exhibition opening. COSMOS particularly admired the attire of attendees in foreground.

Dale Emmart attended Cooper Union for a BFA in printmaking and drawing, and RISD for an MFA in painting. She works as a painter, printmaker, and paper and book artist in her studio in Northeastern Pennsylvania and New York City.
